THE INTERNATIONAL CARD MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION (ICMA) ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF ANNUAL SPIRITUS AWARDS
— ICMA Members Recognized for Outstanding Service —
PRINCETON JUNCTION, NJ, November 28, 2005 — Recognizing member companies that have implemented outstanding community programs, the International Card Manufacturers Association (ICMA) is proud to announce the winners of the annual Spiritus Awards. The awards ceremony was held last month at the ICMA EXPO in Miami, Florida.
“We are delighted to honor these companies who have gone above and beyond their call for community service,” said Jeffrey E. Barnhart, founder and executive director of ICMA. “This award shows appreciation for companies who demonstrate a genuine interest and concern for not only their community but society as a whole.”
Winners of the award were determined based on a number of factors, including the level and depth of involvement by company staff; the overall impact of the program on the community, i.e. the number of people affected or helped by the program; the overall effort put into the program in terms of hours of service or complexity of the program's development; and the overall impact of resources such as money, time, expertise, and in-kind donations.
This year’s Spiritus Award winners were:
- M-tech Innovation Ltd. , a card manufacturer based in Pune, India, took an active role in aiding the Tsunami relief funds. They not only raised a substantial amount of money to donate to the Sakal Tsunami funds, they also hold a highly successful annual blood donation camp.
In addition to M-tech’s contributions to society they have also shown extreme generosity and responsibility to their employees and surrounding community, including financial support to keep workers in their Belapur Factory who suffered mental, physical and financial loss after a natural calamity.
- Klockner Pentaplast of America, Inc.(KPA), a materials supplier based in Gordonsville, Virginia, serves various charities and organizations. KPA is a top corporate fundraiser for University of Virginia Children’s Hospital. To raise money to help improve services to sick and injured children, employees have conducted various events in the community including their 2 nd annual Casino Night and their 21 st annual Walk for Kids. On a more local level, KPA supports the United Way charity through payroll deductions; sponsors a Harry van Beek Scholarship Fund which aids children of employees with their college education; and supports the Gordonsville Fire Department who recently purchased a new engine with help from KPA funding.
